Danyang is a small county town on the upper Namhan river, about halfway between Seoul and the east coast, where the river cuts through limestone. That limestone is the reason to go: rocks standing in the water, caves under the hills, and cliffs steep enough to build a skywalk off and launch paragliders from.
It is a long way from hidden for Koreans. The county counted 10,018,000 visitors in 2017, the first year it passed ten million, and Seoul Shinmun reported in 2025 that the county’s population was 27,061. For foreign travellers it is less obvious, partly because the English guides we read start the trip in Seoul or Busan, never at the airport. It does not have to.
Incheon Airport to Danyang: three ways, October 2026
| Way | What it involves | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Direct bus | Intercity bus from stop 11B-4, Terminal 1, at 11:40 or 17:00, via Jecheon | Two a day; no fare on the airport’s page |
| Train via Seoul | Into Seoul, then KTX-Eum from Cheongnyangni, which calls at Danyang | The airport railway and at least one change with luggage; we have not checked a through time |
| Bus via Seoul | Into Seoul, then an intercity bus to Danyang terminal | Same transfers; check which terminal before you buy |
The airport’s own timetable lists the bus under Danyang, with the stops Jecheon and Danyang. It leaves from stop 11B-4 at Terminal 1 at 11:40 and 17:00, and the total printed above the list says 2. The operator is Seoul Express, on 043-234-2753. The page prints no fare and no ride time, and says times can change without notice and points to the T-money GO app for detail. Allow for immigration and baggage: we have not timed them, but a flight landing after about 15:00 is probably too late for the 17:00, and that means the train.
The bus is not new. Seoul Shinmun reported its start in April 2016: twice a day each way, through Jecheon and Songdo, about four hours, on a 28-seat coach. The airport’s current list no longer shows Songdo, so treat the four-hour figure as the 2016 timing. The times from the Danyang end are not on the airport’s page; buy the return at Danyang terminal or in the app.
The train route got simpler in December 2024. Korail began running KTX-Eum trains from Cheongnyangni in Seoul to Bujeon in Busan on 20 December, calling at Danyang among other stations. Cheongnyangni is in north-east Seoul, so from the airport it is the airport railway and at least one change before you reach it.

What the English guides have not caught up with
Two things, both checkable on the operators’ own pages.
The airport bus. The two English guides we measured for this page, one updated in June 2026 and one in October 2026, both start from a city: the KTX from Cheongnyangni, a bus from Dong Seoul, or a train from Busan with changes. Neither mentions that a bus from Terminal 1 goes there directly. For somebody landing at midday with a suitcase, that is the difference between one seat and two transfers.
The skywalk price. The Soul of Seoul’s guide, updated on 17 June 2026, gives the Mancheonha Skywalk as 2,000 won. Kyunghyang Shinmun gave the deck as 3,000 won in 2019. Danyang Tourism Corporation, which runs it, has charged an adult 4,000 won since a fee change on 6 October 2023. Each figure was right once. Only the operator’s page says when it changed, which is the one date a reader needs.
Danyang Korea things to do, spot by spot
Dodamsambong is the picture on every Danyang poster: three rocks standing in the river, the middle one with a small pavilion. The car parks run by the tourism corporation hold 84 cars in the first lot, 60 in the second and 150 in a temporary one. The county lists a boat at the rocks on 043-422-5593, and gives Seokmun, a natural stone arch above the river, the same address.

Gosu Cave is the big one. Seoul Shinmun gave it in 2022 as Natural Monument No. 256, with 940 m of its 1,395 m open to visitors, and said the cave holds 13 to 15 °C all year. Take a layer in August, and expect a queue on a hot weekend: citing the county, the same report put weekday visitors that summer at 250 a day and weekend visitors at 2,000-odd.

Ondal Cave is the smaller and better documented one, run by the tourism corporation inside the Ondal tourist park. Its page gives Natural Monument No. 261, 800 m in all, about 16 °C inside, and about 30 minutes to walk it. An adult pays 6,000 won. It opens 09:00 to 18:00 from March to November, tickets until 17:00, and 09:00 to 17:00 in winter. One line is worth knowing before you travel: when the Namhan river rises, the cave closes for two or three days.
Mancheonha Skywalk is a viewing deck over the river on the cliff above town. Adults pay 4,000 won. Summer hours are 09:00 to 18:00 with tickets sold until 17:00, and winter 09:00 to 17:00. The operator says the deck can be used only by taking the shuttle bus from the ticket office. The zipline, alpine coaster and slide on the same site open at 09:00 and the monorail at 10:00, each with its own fee.
The cliff boardwalk, called the Danyang river jando, runs 1.2 km along the river from Sangjin bridge in Danyang town to Aegok-ri in Jeokseong-myeon, 2 m wide.

Danyang Korea paragliding: what it costs and who runs it
Paragliding is what Danyang is known for inside Korea. Kyunghyang Shinmun, writing in 2019, counted more than ten companies, with launch sites on Yangbangsan, the hill above the county office, and on Dusan, not far from Gosu Cave. It put the year before at about 130,000 people in the air, and said flying is possible on more than 300 days a year.
The same report gave a basic flight of about ten minutes at around 110,000 won, varying by company, and 10,000 to 20,000 won more for a video of the flight. That was 2019, so treat it as a 2019 reading and ask the operator for today’s price. This page names no company: we have not flown with any of them, and the county’s English site does not list them.
A day in Danyang without a car
| Plan | Route | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Arrive on the 11:40 bus | Danyang terminal, the cliff boardwalk to the skywalk, the shuttle up | Skywalk tickets stop at 17:00 in summer, 16:00 in winter |
| Full day | Dodamsambong and Seokmun in the morning, Gosu Cave after lunch, skywalk last | Taxi or the tourist bus between them |
| Add paragliding | First thing in the morning, then the river sights | Flights depend on the wind on the day |
Between sights, the tourism corporation runs a tourist bus called Haengbok Nadeuri, started in December 2020. An adult pays 1,700 won in cash or 1,650 won by transit card. The timetable is an image on that page, and it prints the loop: the bus terminal, the market, Mancheonha (the skywalk), Suyanggae and Aegok-ri, the far end of the cliff boardwalk. So the boardwalk and the skywalk work without a taxi. The image is dated to an older timetable, so phone 043-421-7884 to confirm the times before you plan around them.
When not to go
Summer weekends fill the caves: the 2022 report put Gosu Cave at 2,000-odd visitors at the weekend against 250 a day on weekdays. Go on a weekday if you can.
After heavy rain, check Ondal Cave before going. Its own page says a rising river shuts it for two or three days. Paragliding usually waits on the wind and the weather too.
What we have not checked
- The airport bus fare and ride time. The airport’s page prints neither. A timetable aggregator, not the operator, lists a deluxe (udeung) coach at 33,600 won taking 3 hours 3 minutes, not confirmed by the operator. The 2016 launch report gave about four hours on a route that then went through Songdo.
- The return times from Danyang to the airport. Not on the airport’s page; ask at Danyang terminal.
- Gosu Cave’s current hours and fee. The cave’s own website refused the connection when this page was checked. Phone 043-422-3072.
- Today’s paragliding prices, and whether a given company takes bookings in English.
- The Dodamsambong boat fare and timetable.
- Whether the tourist bus times are current. The image on the operator’s page is an older timetable.
If you have taken the 11:40 from Terminal 1, tell me what it cost and how long it took. For somewhere much closer to the airport, start with Sindo, Sido and Modo, or for the west coast, the Gogunsan islands. Further east, the same airport timetable lists a direct bus to Andong, the way to Byeongsan Seowon, which only three buses a day reach.
Questions people actually ask
- How do I get to Danyang, Korea from Incheon Airport?
- By the direct intercity bus. The Incheon Airport bus timetable lists a Danyang bus from stop 11B-4 at Terminal 1 at 11:40 and 17:00, two a day, calling at Jecheon on the way. The airport page prints no fare and says times can change without notice, so check the T-money GO app before you land. The other way is into Seoul and a KTX-Eum train from Cheongnyangni, which calls at Danyang.
- What are the best Danyang Korea things to do in one day?
- Dodamsambong, the three rocks in the river, with the Seokmun stone arch beside it; Gosu Cave, of which 940 m of a 1,395 m cave is open; the Mancheonha Skywalk, 4,000 won for an adult and reached only by shuttle bus; and a walk on the 1.2 km cliff boardwalk along the river. Paragliding takes a morning on its own if you add it.
- How much is Danyang Korea paragliding?
- Kyunghyang Shinmun reported in 2019 that a basic flight of about ten minutes cost around 110,000 won, varying by company, with 10,000 to 20,000 won more for a video. More than ten companies operate, from launch sites on Yangbangsan and Dusan. Treat the price as a 2019 reading and ask the operator for today's.
- Is the Mancheonha Skywalk free?
- No. The operator, Danyang Tourism Corporation, has charged an adult 4,000 won since a fee change on 6 October 2023. The deck can be reached only by the shuttle bus from the ticket office. Summer hours are 09:00 to 18:00, with tickets sold until 17:00.
- What time does Gosu Cave in Danyang close?
- The cave's own website did not open when this page was checked, so its current hours are not confirmed here. Phone the cave on 043-422-3072. Ondal Cave, run by the county tourism corporation, publishes its hours: 09:00 to 18:00 from March to November, tickets until 17:00, and 09:00 to 17:00 in winter.
