Suncheon Bay: one ticket covers garden and wetland, not two

Suncheon Bay is a tidal bay on the south coast where the reed beds run out to the mudflats, with the National Garden about 7 km away on the edge of the city. The city sells them as two attractions, with two sections of its site and two fee pages.
They take one ticket. The garden’s fee page says a National Garden ticket also gets you into the wetland the same day, and the wetland’s page says the same thing from the other end.
Incheon Airport to Suncheon Bay: five buses, October 2026
| Way | What it involves | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Direct bus, T1 stop 13A-1 | 08:05, 09:25, 14:35 and 17:35 to Suncheon and Yeosu. An aggregator lists 4 h 06 min to Suncheon terminal, 46,300 won deluxe, 60,200 won premium | Only the 08:05 (arrives 12:11) and 09:25 (13:31) leave daylight for the reeds |
| Direct bus, T1 stop 12B-4 | 19:50 via Namwon, a late-night arrival | A night in Suncheon first |
| Bus 66 from Suncheon terminal | About 40 minutes to the Suncheon Bay Wetland stop | The same page gives two timetables: about 30 runs from 05:50 to 22:10, and every 25 minutes from 06:05 to 22:00. No fare listed |
The 14:35 reaches Suncheon at 18:41, by the aggregator’s times. The wetland stops selling tickets at 18:00 in October and 17:00 from November, so that bus means the reeds tomorrow.
The airport page prints no fare and no ride time, and says times can change without notice. Check the T-money GO app before you land. Seoul to Suncheon Bay by rail: IVisitKorea puts the KTX from Yongsan at about 2 hours 45 minutes; treat that as the guide’s figure, not Korail’s.
Suncheon Bay National Garden tickets: one ticket, two sites
| Ticket | Adult (19 to 64) | 13 to 18 / 7 to 12 |
|---|---|---|
| Garden or wetland, day | 10,000 won | 7,000 / 5,000 won |
| Garden night, sold 17:00 to 19:00 | 5,000 won | 3,500 / 2,500 won |
| Combined ticket, garden, wetland and more, 2 days | 12,000 won | 8,500 / 5,500 won |
| Sky Cube, round trip | 8,000 won | 8,000 / 6,000 won |
| Sky Cube, one way | 6,000 won | 6,000 / 5,000 won |
A day ticket bought at either gate covers both. The garden page says a garden ticket lets you see the wetland too, and a ticket bought at the wetland must be shown to enter the garden. The garden allows one re-entry a day, with a stamp at the exit.
The night ticket is the trap. Only the garden’s fee page lists one, and the same page says plainly that the wetland does not admit it.
The combined ticket adds Nagan Eupseong folk village, the drama set and the Deep-Rooted Tree museum to the garden and the wetland, over one night and two days. The garden page calls that five sites; the wetland page says six and names the same five. Either way it costs 2,000 won more than the day ticket.
Until 4 November 2026 there is also a discount. The garden’s home page says a ticket bought on site at the Yeosu World Island Expo takes 3,000 won off the garden and wetland ticket, so 7,000 won for an adult. It applies to individual day tickets only, not group or night tickets, the combined ticket or the one-year membership.
Read that again if you have an older guide open. IVisitKorea, updated in August 2026, still lists the wetland at 7,000 won for adults and the garden as closed until spring 2024. Both city fee pages now print 10,000 won.

Suncheon Bay Wetland Reserve: hours and the reed field
| Months | Tickets sold | You may stay until |
|---|---|---|
| November to February | 08:00 to 17:00 | 18:00 |
| March, April, September, October | 08:00 to 18:00 | 19:00 |
| May to August | 08:00 to 19:00 | 20:00 |
Both sites close on the last Monday of each month. In October 2026 that is Monday the 26th.
The wetland’s own note on closing time is worth reading before a sunset visit. The street lights go off at closing, and the page says you can walk out by the light left in the sky for up to 30 minutes after sunset, then warns about walking in the dark.
The reed train from the Sky Cube stops at Mujin bridge, at the reed field. The city’s directions put the wetland at 513-25 Suncheonman-gil. English guides often call the same place Suncheon Bay Ecological Park.

Yongsan Observatory: failed in 2023, rebuilt in 2025
The well-known view of the S-shaped channel is the one from Yongsan, a 77 m hill above the bay. The wetland site puts the walk up from the Yongsan entrance at about 30 minutes.
The observatory on top is new. The old one, built in 2010, got a D grade in a 2023 safety inspection and was demolished. The city completed a two-storey timber replacement on 11 July 2025, by the wetland’s own page, and Seoul Shinmun reported the reopening that week.
So an English guide that sends you up Yongsan is right about the walk, and any guide written between the demolition and July 2025 may tell you the top is shut. It is open again.
Seoul Shinmun also reported a 908 m step-free deck along the approach, planned in stages through 2026. We have not found whether it is finished, so treat the path as stairs and slopes until the city says otherwise.
Suncheon Bay National Garden to the wetland: Sky Cube or bus 66
The Sky Cube is a small driverless tram from the garden station to Suncheonman station, 4.6 km in about 10 minutes. From there a reed train, free to Sky Cube riders, runs 1.2 km to Mujin bridge in 7 minutes.
It runs from 10:00. The last car leaves the garden at 18:00 from March to October and 17:00 from November to February. It closes every Monday, or the next weekday when the Monday is a public holiday. The operator’s page says you board after entering the garden or the wetland, so either day ticket gets you on; the fare is on top.
Bus 66 is the other way, or a taxi. The garden’s directions page sends bus 66 from Suncheon Station to the National Garden (East Gate) stop, about 21 minutes, and the wetland page lists the same route number from the station to the Suncheon Bay Wetland stop, about 35 minutes. Neither page describes a ride between the two stops, so ask the driver at the East Gate stop whether the bus is heading for the wetland.

Suncheon Bay in a day
| Time | Plan |
|---|---|
| 09:00 | Garden opens. Buy the day ticket, not the night one |
| Late morning | Garden, then the Sky Cube and reed train to Mujin bridge |
| Afternoon | Reed field, then the 30-minute climb to Yongsan |
| Before closing | Walk back down while there is light, then bus 66 to the city |
This works on any day but a Monday. On a Monday the Sky Cube is shut, so use bus 66 or a taxi between the two, and on the last Monday of the month skip both. Going out on the Sky Cube and back by bus means a one-way fare, 6,000 won for an adult.
When not to go
- The last Monday of the month. Garden and wetland both close. Monday 26 October 2026 is one.
- Late, on a night ticket, hoping for the reeds. The wetland does not take it, and its gate stops selling tickets at 18:00 in October.
- If you came only for the cranes, before mid-October. Seoul Shinmun says they winter here from mid-October to March; last winter the first 73 hooded cranes arrived on 22 October 2025. Herald Korea reported up to about 8,600 wintering in the bay by February 2026.
What we have not checked
- Fee dates. Neither fee page is dated. The garden’s Yeosu discount notice, running to 4 November 2026, gives 10,000 won as the standard adult price, so treat that figure as current for this autumn.
- The airport fare and ride time. They come from an aggregator updated today, not the operators. The airport page names four operators for the Suncheon route and no fares.
- Bus 66 from garden to wetland. The city’s two directions pages each list bus 66 from the station; neither says one bus runs from the East Gate stop to the wetland.
- How many sites the combined ticket opens. The garden page says five, the wetland page says six and names five.
- The step-free deck to Yongsan. Planned through 2026; we have no completion notice.
- The 2026 reed festival. The wetland posted a notice for the 27th Suncheon Bay Reed Festival on 16 October 2026, but the dates are only in images we could not read. Phone 061-749-6072.
If any of this has changed, tell us on the contact page and we will correct it with the date. For an inland stop with its own direct bus from Terminal 1, see Byeongsan Seowon in Andong. Further east along this coast, Somaemuldo off Tongyeong still has its ferry but has lost the walk across to its lighthouse.
Questions people actually ask
- Suncheon Bay National Garden tickets: do I need a separate wetland ticket?
- No. The garden's fee page says a Suncheon Bay National Garden ticket also admits you to the Suncheon Bay Wetland, about 7 km away, on the same day. An adult ticket is 10,000 won, 7,000 won for ages 13 to 18 and 5,000 won for ages 7 to 12. The exception is the 5,000 won night ticket, which the wetland does not accept.
- What are the Suncheon Bay Wetland Reserve opening hours?
- By the National Garden's hours page, which lists both sites, wetland tickets are sold from 08:00 until 17:00 from November to February, 18:00 in March, April, September and October, and 19:00 from May to August. Visitors may stay an hour after ticket sales close. The same page says both close on the last Monday of each month.
- Is Suncheon Bay Ecological Park the same as the wetland reserve?
- Yes, in practice. English guides use both names for the reed beds and boardwalks at the mouth of the bay, which the city's site calls Suncheon Bay Wetland (순천만습지). The address is 513-25 Suncheonman-gil, and bus 66 from Suncheon Station or the bus terminal stops at the Suncheon Bay Wetland stop.
- How do I get from Suncheon Bay National Garden to the wetland?
- By the Sky Cube, a small automated tram that runs 4.6 km from the garden station to Suncheonman station in about 10 minutes, then a free reed train for 1.2 km to the wetland. A round trip is 8,000 won, one way 6,000 won, and the Sky Cube is closed on Mondays. Otherwise take a taxi, or bus 66, which the city's pages list at both the National Garden (East Gate) stop and the wetland stop.
- Suncheon Bay reviews: is the observatory open?
- Yes. The old Yongsan Observatory, built in 2010, was demolished after a D safety grade in 2023, and the city completed a new two-storey timber observatory on 11 July 2025. The wetland site puts the walk up from the Yongsan entrance at about 30 minutes.
